Car Colors is the project name I’ve chosen for this album but it’s really just me, charles bissell, for 30+ years member/songwriter/singer/producer/recordist/mixer of the wrens and most of these songs were finished for what would've been the next wrens album, pre-break-up. I’m joined on this record now by six super accomplished, and just plain super, drummers drumming: Jeff Lipstein (original wrens' drummer), Jon Langmead, Matt LeMay, Lyle Hysen, Chris Bonner (from my first high school band!) and Judd Counsell.

Further back, I started playing guitar relatively late, age 16: have been in bands since 1981; went to Combs College of Music, then William Paterson College, both as a jazz major, studied with Rufus Reid, Joe Lovano, Bobby Watson, Bucky PIzzarelli, Steve Turre, Vic Juris, Harry Leahey etc. I've returned to working on jazz guitar over the last 15 years, in part as a way to battle focal dystonia in the left hand and most of that study has been with Chris Crocco, a protege of George Garzone (so the leading exponent of the Triadic Chromatic Approach on guitar) but also Mary Halvorson, Bryan Baker, Nir Felder, Max Light, Tim Ferguson and Vinnie Sperazza.
